Home for the Holidays – New Games, Events & Special Deals in PlayStation Home

The holidays arrive in PlayStation Home this Thursday, December 15th with the force of an F5 gust, bringing games, quests, rewards, and plenty of wonderful, wintry fun for all. Beginning in the newly-decorated PlayStation Home Mall, players will find a plentitude of festive items at deals that simply can’t be beat. From free goodies hidden within the stores as a sign of goodwill towards all to special bundles priced as low as they go, ‘tis the season to go shopping in PlayStation Home.

Of course, no winter holiday would be complete without a special event, which is why we have called in favors with our friends Snowman, Snow Bear, and some very special guests for what is sure to be the celebration of the year.

Hosted in a snow-covered Pier Park, the Winter Holiday Hullabaloo is a collection of quests and community activities that reward players with exclusive items and collectibles only available from this limited-time holiday event. Start by going to the Activity Board to start the Winter Holiday Hullabaloo quest; then catch a boat from Pier Park to transport to this chill(y) locale where Snowman and Snow Bear will provide clues that will lead you throughout a vast winter wonderland filled with tons of surprises. Complete all the quests to unlock a variety of special rewards that will leave your inventory bulging with awesome mementos of the 2011 holiday season!

Just in time for New Years, Lockwood releases their Midnight Glade personal space, which lets players unleash a pyrotechnic display against the dark sky. With grassy fields that turn into gently sloping hills, an idyllic spreading oak tree, and a campfire area the Midnight Glade is the ideal spot to ring in the New Year with your friends.

Pick up the Zeus and Comet rockets from the Lockwood Publishing store, choose your favorite colors and then position your launcher (diagrams and details on the back of the launchers which will help make setting up the perfect display easy). Get eight of your friends in the Midnight Glade at the same time to unlock the Supernova Firework reward – you can use the built-in Gift Machine to send them home with a gift or two (and they can return the favor)!

The PlayStation Home Mall receives yet another huge update this week with new Mydeco items from VEEMEE, additions to the popular Drey line from Lockwood, Adidas clothing courtesy of Konami, more Urban Camo costumes (also from Konami), and tons more!

All Zombies Must Die! Brings Big Heads and Zombies to PlayStation Home

Hello! You may remember Doublesix Games from 2009’s Burn Zombie Burn! We’re clearly not done murdering zombies. In our upcoming arcade-RPG All Zombies Must Die! the idea is simple: you kill all zombies. It’s one of those ‘it does what it says in the title’ kind of things. The game is a mix of weapons-based arena combat and light RPG elements and pits a Gamer, a Girl, a Mad Scientist and an Alien against six billion zombies to defend the world’s supply of delicious, supple brains. All Zombies Must Die! drops up to four players into the town of Deadhill, where they must mow their way through ranks of brain-hungry monsters with a variety of weaponry while completing quests served up by the game’s gripping storyline. We’re combining elements of action and role-playing, including character leveling, weapons crafting and numerous quests. The graphics reflect the silly yet sinister nature of the gameplay with a bright, comic style. All Zombies Must Die! will be hitting the PlayStation Network later this year.

But before the game releases, we’ve got something special in the works for PlayStation Home folks, just in time for Halloween. With the All Zombies Must Die! “Big Head Pack”, now available in the PlayStation Home Mall, you’ll be able to don oversized heads of two characters from the game: Jack the gamer and Luxo the alien. In addition to this, a third mask allows you to shuffle about PlayStation Home as one of the titular zombies. (Note: please remember to groan and shout “braaaaaiiiiiinnnnnns” if you’re going to do this)

While clearly zombies are horrific creatures that should be peppered with shotgun shells on sight (all zombies must die, remember?), wouldn’t it be nice to have one of the little green fellas ambling along beside you? Indeed it would. To compliment the first Big Head Pack, PlayStation Home will also be getting six companions on Monday, October 31st; two zombies and four mutants, who will faithfully trot along beside your avatar. With your comically oversized head and a pet mutant shuffling about by your side, you’ll certainly be conveying the right image this Halloween.
The Big Head Pack sells for .99, giving you all three heads for both male and female avatars, while the lovable zombie companions will sell individually for .99

For more information, ‘like’ All Zombies Must Die! on Facebook, or take a gander at the official AZMD site.

PlayStation Home Updates Core Client to Version 1.4

Hey everyone!

Great news: On Thursday, November 11th, PlayStation Home will update to version 1.4. This update to the core client will have an enormous impact on users and developers alike, as it is literally jam-packed with new and revised features. A full list of these features will be posted next week, but before the weekend hits I wanted to hop in here and give you all a sneak peek at some of the exciting new features that will be coming with this update.

PlayStation Home Logo

Grouping and Voice Chat
That’s right – voice chat is coming back! With version 1.4 you will be able to form a “Group” with up to 8 people and chat with one another in both public and personal spaces. The best part is that these groups will have dedicated voice and text chat channels that allow you to speak to members of your group regardless of where each of you may be located in-world! New voice and chat channels will also be made available for clubs, making communication with other members of your club much easier.

Wardrobe Improvements
Alongside improved voice chat, many of you have asked for additional inventory/wardrobe management features. Our development team has taken your requests very seriously and have instituted sweeping improvements, including:

  • You will now have the ability to mark items as “Favorites” – making commonly-used items much easier to relocate.
  • Newly-acquired items (along with categories that contain new items) will be marked accordingly.
  • Options for filtering and sorting items have been added, giving you greater control over which items you see and how they are displayed.

There is also a new “Storage” section that will be added to your wardrobe so you can store away items that you do not regularly use. For those with a lot of items in their wardrobe, placing items into storage will result in your wardrobe loading faster, and will make it easier for you to browse your main wardrobe. This system is very flexible and allows you to quickly restore items to your main wardrobe when you need them.

While these are some of the most important changes associated with version 1.4, this does not represent the entire scope of the update. Trust me – we have tons of cool stuff in store for you next week ;) Stay tuned to this blog for a more in-depth list of all the awesome features and improvements coming your way next Thursday.

See you in Home!
