Today is The Day: The Tester 3 Premiere Has Arrived

The time has finally come: it’s premiere day for The Tester 3! We hope you’ve enjoyed getting an inside look at this exciting season: we’ve introduced our diverse group of contestants, panelists, and special guests, provided a sneak peek at the first episode, and gone behind the scenes at  the future workplace of the season 3 winner. Here’s a look at the first minutes of the season premiere of The Tester 3:

Watch The Tester 3 – Episode 1

To celebrate the start of season 3, we’ve brought our past two winners of The Tester here to the PlayStation.Blog to talk about their experiences. Both season 1 winner Will Powers (Cyrus) and season 2 winner Matthew Brown (Gaymer) have gone on from their experience on The Tester to full-time careers at Sony. We spoke to both of them recently, and below, they’ve given us their thoughts on being a part of the show, and where it has taken them.

Will Powers, Associate PR Generalist, SCEA
Because of the nature of The Tester, upon winning I was exposed to various media interview requests, all of which had to be staffed by individuals from the Public Relations team here at PlayStation. The general consensus was that during these media opportunities I came off as well-spoken and knowledgeable. There happened to be an opening in the Public Relations department in San Diego, where I was recruited based upon the relationships and impressions that I hadn’t even known I was making as a neophyte within the organization. Now over the past year and a half I’ve been working to help organize events and promote product publicity for various titles in the PlayStation portfolio, including working on The Tester itself.

Matthew Brown, Marketing Coordinator, Sony Pictures Entertainment
Being on The Tester has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Filming the show, testing for Sony Computer Entertainment, going to E3 and meeting so many people, it’s all been an absolute blast and has only deepened my love for the industry and PlayStation. I’ve since moved to Los Angeles and joined the Sony Pictures family (my hiring manager saw the show), where I’m laser-focused on rounding myself out as a marketer and storyteller. I’m confident that as the entertainment and tech industries grow there will be more and more crossover between games and films, and I can’t wait to be a part of that with Sony.

Impressive. Who’s next to win season 3? The best way to find out is to catch the show every Tuesday: Log into PSN to watch the show through your PS3 or PSP, or stay online and watch the show at PlayStation.com. Full episodes are also hosted in Theater 2 in PlayStation Home, where you can get exclusive The Tester 3 avatar shirts for watching the show. And keep an eye on the official PlayStation Twitter for ways to win great PlayStation prizes throughout the season.

The Tester 3 Premiere Party

Members of The Tester 3 join past cast members, panelist Brent Gocke, and host Meredith Molinari at the LA premiere party.

We hope you enjoy this season!

Pinballistik: Build a Battle Pinball Arcade Today on PSN

Creat Studios is proud to present Pinballistik, our latest PSN-exclusive game. Pinballistik is unlike any other pinball game you’ve ever played – it has the first two-player Battle mode where you can face off against your friends and play on either side of the table! In another first, you can play against AI players with varying degrees of difficulty. In a nod to the purists, we also offer challenging and full-featured single player Classic tables for each of our themed table packs.

When we tell people Pinballistik is only .99 for the first two Wild West-themed tables, they often ask: Is this only a mini? Does it have Trophies? Well, I can tell you that this is no mini and it has a ton of Trophies! In fact, the ‘a la carte’ approach we’ve taken has allowed us to provide 29 trophies with a total of 525 points – all for less than the price of a standard PSN title!

PSN: Pinballistik

Pinballistik offers a ton of game configuration options. In Battle mode, either play to reach a certain point threshold or get the highest score in a time limit. You can configure penalties that are applied when you get your ball past your opponent’s flippers – yes, all the way up to 100%! A variety of power-ups (can be disabled on Classic tables for the authentic experience) make strategies in battle mode very interesting! Rest assured, all Classic and ‘vs AI’ games are tracked in the online Ranking boards – we don’t want to dictate which modes are worthy of being recorded for posterity.

In a previous posting, we showcased our launch table pack Circle the Wagons – a rugged romp through the Wild West with a six-shooter figuring prominently as the central feature. You can imagine the crazy multi-ball action that ensues when that baby swings into action! If you’re a fan of the Old West, pinball or any kind of battling really then start your Pinballistik arcade off for only .99.

Our first DLC table pack is Made of Money, a bling-themed extravaganza where opulence and wealth are the order of the day. A unique feature of the Battle mode is the innovative ‘side-switch’ feature, where you must complete features on both sides of the table. There’s also a subterranean bonus table in there too. The Classic table has some intricate features with lots of nifty tracking camera work so you can always see what’s going on. Made of Money has ‘Break the Bank’ as a final feature but at only .99, this game-pack is hardly likely to do that!

Our second DLC table pack is ‘Sector X’, homage to 30’s kitschy science-fiction shows. In Sector X, flying at the speed of light is a doddle yet everything is still held together with rivets! Here, the Battle mode features a powerful force-field that must be disabled in order to mess with your opponent. The features of the tables unfold in story-like fashion, and players will contend with UFO invasions, teleporters and asteroid fields to name a few. Big points can be earned in the subterranean skirmish table, shoot the opponents targets out first for a big bonus. Classic table action features a rocket-ship ball save feature and culminates in crazy multi-ball action. Beam up the Sector X game-pack for only .99 in galactic credits!

Creat Studios is very excited to hear your feedback on the innovative action offered in Pinballistik, it will be very helpful as we work on delivering more great battle pinball action with further DLC table packs. Thanks for supporting our PSN-exclusive games, and please continue to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Now go and get that jackpot!

Dead Nation: Road of Devastation Out Today

With over 3.8 million recruits and more than 13 billion zombies killed worldwide, the time has come to launch the ultimate zombie-killing spectacle of our time. Think you’ve got what it takes to survive “Road of Devastation?” An expansion to Dead Nation with single player and two player co-op modes (online and offline), as well as new trophies to pick up, Road of Devastation is a brand new way to experience Dead Nation. Check out our new launch trailer below! It reveals some awesome new Road of Devastation moments, along with accolades that Dead Nation received – all in iconic 80′s action movies style!

From the ashes of the apocalypse, an organization has worked in the shadows, tampering with the human gene to engineer the perfect zombie killing machine… you! Continuing from the events of the original game (or is that preceding…?), Road of Devastation puts your skills to the ultimate test. You find yourself at a crossroads leading to three different choices with each road featuring its own challenges and enemies but also different weapons and tools you’ll need if you’re to survive.

Dead Nation Road of Devastation

Before long, you’ll find your choices have great meaning, you just might find yourself at the crossroads again, but, that time the road you took has been closed, so you’ll make a new decision based on the new weapons, items, money and armor (or perhaps score) you’ll have by then. In order to become the ultimate zombie killing machine you must also master the arts of death completely – you will be rewarded for pulling off different levels of multi-kills, and making constant tactical decisions based on new money, score and other collectible mechanics.

Each road introduces new environments with elements that can work either for or against you. As you wade through areas with heavily overgrown plant life, you can make your way through by destroying the overgrowth blocking your progress. This affects the zombies’ paths as well. Navigating through flooded streets, you might find pools of water with zombies in them that you can electrocute. Flames burst out of buildings on fire, but time your movements right and it might be the zombies who get burned, not you.

Dead Nation Road of Devastation

Road of Devastation gives you several new ways to dispose of enemies. Trigger electric fences to fry everything nearby or turn zombie masses into mince meat with heavy-duty industrial saws. The latest technology even enable you to deploy an automated sentry gun called the “Auto-Turret” onto the battlefield – watch that ammo counter go. In the local hospital area you’ll find a new type of health pack – a medikit you can carry with you and use when you need it most. It restores full health, but you can only carry one at a time (or stomp it to gain lots of cash).

As the virus evolves, the enemies evolve. You’ll find enemy waves start to grow in numbers and get more and more aggressive. Zombies can now also burst forth from every conceivable angle. See a manhole cover moving? Zombies might literally ooze out at any moment. There’s a crack in a wall? You might want to keep your distance. No place is safe anymore. Even the ground you walk on might turn inside out when some of the new enemy types reveal themselves. And forget what you thought you knew about common zombies – Road of Devastation presents new enemy traits to several common zombie types. Low on ammo? Cop zombies usually drop some. Low on health? Doctor and nurse zombies might carry health packs. Need money? Tourist zombies tend to carry pocket change. See if you can discover them all.

Dead Nation Road of Devastation

A few entirely new enemies will also require your attention. Be extra careful when treading plant-infested environments – the virus has now also begun to infect even plant life. Beneath the ground, masses of buried corpses, all but decomposed have now fused with infected plant life. When these monstrous atrocities burst forth from amidst the plants, you’ll notice they have no problem treading the infested terrain as they make their way toward you. And the original game’s “Mouth” enemy makes a deadly comeback – evolved into “Big Mouth”, it now summons its minions straight from hell, from right below your very feet!

Prepare to experience Dead Nation in a brand new way in Road of Devastation, out today for .99. This time, it’s war!

Tales From Space: About a Blob Hits PSN Today, is Growing, and Growing, and Growing…

Hello humanoids! I’m happy to be sending you a message from across the Internets. It’s a very proud day for the team here in Toronto, because today marks the general release of our first game, Tales from Space: About a Blob. PSN users in North America can pick up the game today exclusively, and European users will see the game released tomorrow. If you haven’t heard of our title yet, allow me to tickle your brain. About a Blob is a game where you play as a little blob that grows and grows until he consumes the world. We like to think of it as a puzzle-platforming game set in a 1950’s monster-movie. Your goal is to get from the beginning to the end of every level by eating and growing, and along the way jumping, running, and squishing through puzzles and bosses.

Tales From Space: About a Blob (Biggish Blob)Tales From Space: About a Blob (Bigger Blob)

In the beginning of the game the blob has only his wits, his ability to spit objects, and his infinite appetite at his disposal. As the game progresses the blob also attains the powers of magnetism and electricity.

Since we haven’t focused on it on before, in this post I want to touch on the kind of size changes the blob undergoes in the game. At the start the blob is around the size of a marble, but by the end he’s absolutely huge. As the blob gets bigger he can eat bigger things, jump higher and move faster, and as a result previous threats suddenly become inconsequential. Above, for example, you can see the blob as he starts in one of the levels. He’s about the size of the people nearby, and while he would certainly intimidate me, he’s not monstrous. A little while later however, you can see the blob is able to make things much less comfortable for the people around him.

Tales From Space: About a Blob (Large size)

The blob’s size is potentially limitless, and below I’ve provided a preview of some of the scales you play at. In the game the blob goes from threatening cockroaches, to people, to buildings, to cities, to the Earth itself.

Tales From Space: About a Blob (Large size)

Tales From Space: About a Blob (Huge size)

We certainly hope everyone enjoys the game, and you should all know that DLC is forthcoming. There are Home Rewards in the game already, and additional items should appear in PlayStation Home soon. A free theme will be provided to PlayStation Plus users, and of course we’ll have a Dynamic Theme, Avatars, and Wallpapers. Most importantly, there will also be in-game DLC, both free and for-purchase, which we’ll start revealing over the next few weeks. Finally, if you’re interested, every week for the next while we’ll be talking about the process of building the game on our development blog at http://www.aboutablob.com/.

Thanks for reading!

Dead Space 2 Terrorizes PS3 Today, Limited Edition Includes Dead Space: Extraction

Dead Space 2

The Dead Space 2 team and I are super stoked that Dead Space 2 is now finally out and people are getting to play it. We have been anxiously awaiting this day to hear what gamers think of what we have been working on. The PS3 Limited Edition version of Dead Space 2 is crazy — it not only includes Dead Space 2, but it also has Dead Space Extraction. That means you can get your MOVE ON with Dead Space Extraction, and you can play it solo or in co-op as well.

Dead Space 2 for PS3Dead Space 2 for PS3

Making Dead Space 2 has been a blast, getting to see everyone’s speculation on what the game was going to be about, if we lost our minds and cut out the horror, or if we were making some sort of ninja-puzzle-adventure game. Now is the time to see what the final version Dead Space 2 is all about.

From my perspective, the team did a fantastic job. This is the game I’m most proud of being a part of. The game feels better, looks better, has bigger moments, and even includes multiplayer for the first time. I really hope you like it!

Head out now to your local game store and get a copy of the Collector’s Edition — if you can still find it — or the Limited Edition and start dismembering Necromorphs today. If you want to keep up on the game and maybe get your multiplayer on, follow me on Twitter: @leveluptime.

Thanks again and please let us know what you think of the game.
